PTSD & Chronic Stress

Many people think PTSD is only for extreme situations like war or getting into a horrific accident. The truth is that PTSD has nothing to do with something extreme happening, but with our reaction to what occurred.

Trauma is anything that is “too much”. Sometimes those “too much” moments happen repeatedly over time and get stuck. Over time, the chronic stress makes you feel like you’re going crazy or that you can’t get ahead of it. It seeps into all parts of your life, and it’s making you miserable.

Symptoms of PTSD:

  • Nightmares

  • Reliving the event (flashbacks)

  • Avoiding situations, people, places, or anything that may remind you of the traumatic event

  • You may feel on edge a lot constantly checking for an exit or making sure someone isn’t around that you don’t trust.

  • Sometimes you may feel constantly pessimistic or suspicious of other people, that what happened to you permenantly ruined your life, lost of interest in things you used to like to do, or you have trouble accessing positive emotions.

  • Being easily startled

  • Irritability

  • Difficulty Concentrating

  • Difficulty getting to sleep, staying asleep, or having restful sleep

  • Dissociative reactions where you feel that things around you don’t feel real, fogginess, or detached from yourself
