FAQs
What services do you offer?
1
As a therapist in WA State, I offer both in-person and telehealth therapy.
I offer a fully trauma-informed range of services. You do not have to have PTSD to get help with trauma work. Trauma occurs because of our own subjective experience when something is “too much”. Sometimes the issues we face are precisely because of a trauma response that hasn’t been resolved somewhere in our history.
I always want my work to be grounded in trauma-informed principles of nervous system regulation and safety. This is all done within the therapeutic relationship.
How do I get started?
2
If you’re interested in doing therapy with me, I would love to have a phone or Zoom consultation with you. I believe that finding the right fit is important for both of us. Therapy doesn’t work well if we don’t vibe well together. I encourage you to reach out and we can talk through what you’re looking to address and I can share more about who I am and how I work. If I’m not the best fit for you — I’ll be honest and help you find someone who is a better fit.
What makes you different?
3
I believe we are harmed in relationship, and we heal in them too. From this place I work hard to get into the emotional mess with my clients. I practice from a place of depth which means that I do not shy away from difficult topics. I want to understand your emotional world which requires me to show up emotionally too. I am not merely looking to help you reduce symptoms or just cope better. I want to help you understand why you do what you do, feel what you feel, and how we can create different narratives together.
Do you accept insurance?
4
The short answer is I accept First Choice and Kaiser PPO. All other insurance plans I’m considered out-of-network. On my Investment page, I explain what out-of-network means and how to help you get reimbursed by your insurance company. If you’d like the longer version of why I don’t accept insurance plans any longer, I’d love to share more with you. Feel free to ask!
What can I expect when I meet with you?
5
I am very relaxed with my clients. You’ll often see me in jeans and a sweatshirt with my Stanley sitting next to me. I invite you to show up however you need to. Because the work I do tends to be long term, we will find our own rhythms and ways of communicating that are more particular to our style.
When you show up to a session, I assume you know you best and what is important for us to talk about. I let you lead that conversation and join you as we go. You are the expert of your story — I just happen to have some tools to help you.
Therapy only works when we both show up authentically!
What modalities do you practice from?
6
First and foremost, I consider myself a relational psychodynamic therapist. This is important to me largely because it requires the therapist to be part of the work. It’s not just asking the client to show up and figure it out — it’s my job to listen to the unconscious dynamics that shows up between us. Sometimes that shows up in my body, other times it shows up in me emotionally. I’m working to make sense of the patterns and themes that emerge from your past and how those inform your present moment experiences.
